"Beat
The Pro" is KFMB TV’s annual charity fundraiser that
takes place on Saturdays throughout the summer (6/5-8/14, excluding
7/3) at various San Diego golf courses throughout the county.
For a minimum $3.00 donation to the Boys & Girls Foundation,
golfers can try to beat our celebrity pro and win great prizes.
All golfers who beat our celebrity pro’s distance to the
pin will receive a Local 8 visor. The golfer who is closest to
the pin at the end of each weekly event will receive a $100.00
gift certificate to the pro shop of that week’s course
(or rounds of golf) and the chance to compete in our "Beat
The Pro Championship" against the nine other weekly winners
for great prizes, including a 2-year lease for a 2004 Buick Rainier,
courtesy of the San Diego Buick Dealers. Plus, just for signing
up to participate, golfers will receive a "Beat The Pro" golf
towel and golf ball.
All
golfers must be playing a regular round of golf at that week’s
golf course and reach our designated hole between 10am-2pm in order
to be eligible to participate. KFMB TV will be on hand to videotape
each golfer, and the results will be broadcast on Local 8 News
the following Sunday night at 11pm. In addition, each golfer’s
donation will be matched by our "Beat The Pro" sponsors
-- making each $3.00 donation really a $27.00 donation (with eight
sponsors) to the Boys & Girls Foundation.
Celebrity
golfers are still being selected at this time, however we plan
to include
World Class runner Steve Scott, Zeke Moreno
and other San Diego Chargers players, Brian Russell, former Aztec
QB and current DB for the Vikings, as well as members from the
San Diego Padres and Gulls – to name just a few. Be sure
and watch Local 8 News each Wednesday night at 6pm (6/2 - 8/11,
excluding 6/30) for a preview of that week’s "Beat
The Pro" golf course and celebrity!
