Art
Splash
September 24-25, 10 am - 5pm A wave of art, entertainment and great food is coming to Carlsbad’s scenic Armada Drive. The art extravaganza will feature a fine-art category with juried artisans showing original designs. With over 100 chalk artists at work, the street will be transformed into a virtual asphalt art gallery. The two-day event has become a favorite for these pavement Picassos, who truly enjoy creating their ephemeral masterpieces for all to view.
A delightful children’s area will include demonstrations by Balloon Master Ken Stillman, story reading by best selling author and artist Janell Cannon, meandering performers, chalk painting, an interactive LEGO Mural, workshops by 101 Artists Colony, Center ARTES performances, Patchwork Players, and creative face painting.
The hillside venue with its spectacular ocean view takes on a lively atmosphere with performances by The Fabulous Earrings, Magician Joel Ward & juggler Bobby Hartman, Shokenji Taiko- Buddhist Drummers, CREW – percussion movement performers, Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame Orchestra, and rock band 40 Proof. Delicious food and beverages will be available throughout the festival and includes a beer garden by Karl Strauss Brewery.
A NEW addition to the festival this year is the Saturday night Sunset Concert 6:30 pm to 8:30pm. Performing on stage will be 2005 Grammy Award winner and long-time guitarist for Manhattan Transfer, Wayne Johnson. Also appearing will be Treja’ Vu an eclectic trio featuring Wayne Johnson on guitar, Nashville recording star, Steve Orr and Los Angeles based vocalist, Jill Johnson. TIPS
FROM SDG&E
Most people
use more electricity and natural gas at home during the winter. And high
natural gas prices this winter mean heating costs may be higher than last
year. SDG&E has services that can help you manage energy use and costs,
including a 20 percent discount on your energy bill if you meet income
guidelines. Free energy-saving home-improvements and select energy-efficient
appliances may be available to homeowners and renters who meet income
and other requirements. Call 1-800-411-SDGE for more information or visit
www.sdge.com.
With natural
gas prices higher this winter, conserving energy remains important. Health
permitting, try lowering your furnace thermostat by 3 to 5 degrees, and
it turn it off when you?re away from home. Also consider lowering the
setting on your water heater thermostat. Our assistance programs may help,
too. If you meet income guidelines, SDG&E has a 20 percent energy-bill
discount available. You might also qualify for free energy-saving home-improvements
if you meet income and other requirements. Call 1-800-411-SDGE or visit
